Steven A. Gorcey, MD
Dr. Gorcey is one of the founding partners of Monmouth Gastroenterology and has been practicing in Monmouth County since September 1991. Dr. Steven A. Gorcey is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
After earning his medical degree from Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, Dr. Gorcey did his Internal Medicine Residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and completed his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Winthrop University Hospital in 1991. During fellowship Dr. Gorcey was an Assistant Clinical Instructor for Stony Brook Medical School.
After serving 3 years as Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at Monmouth Medical Center, Dr. Gorcey is now Chief of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. In addition, he is Assistant Clinical Professor at Drexel University Medical school with teaching responsibilities for both medical students and medical/surgical students. His other hospital responsibilities include inpatient consultation, charity care, and both elective and emergent endoscopic procedures. Dr. Gorcey also has attending privileges and is active at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
While to routine Colon Cancer Screening and Upper Endoscopy, comprise the majority of Dr. Gorcey’s procedures, He also has special interests in some of the most advanced endoscopic procedures performed in the world today. Along with being an expert in biliary endoscopy (ERCP-Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography), which is a way of dealing with bile duct disorders through the mouth, Dr. Gorcey is one of a few select physicians in the world performing Restorative Obesity Surgery Endoscopically (ROSE procedure), which is an a incision-less method of revising the stomach after gastric bypass surgery. In addition, Dr. Gorcey was the first doctor in the state of New Jersey to perform BARRX ablation for Barrets esophagus, a non-invasive way of removing pre-cancerous tissue from the esophagus. His close relationship with the advanced laparoscopic surgeons at Monmouth Medical Center allow him to attack complex problems with novel combinations of operative endoscopic and surgical approaches.
Dr. Gorcey performs the majority of his routine outpatient Endoscopies and Colonoscopies at Advanced Endoscopy and Surgical Center, a state of the art ambulatory surgical center located in Eatontown, New Jersey. At both Monmouth Gastroenterology and Advanced Endoscopy, his philosophy is treating patients with courtesy, friendliness and respect, with a pursuit for painless Endoscopy and the lowest complication rates achievable.
